Candid Conversation with a Black Businessman: 7 Myths of Racial Equity

As we are deep into this moment of civil unrest over systemic racism, Dr. Randal Pinkett, co-founder, chairman and CEO of BCT Partners, and co-author of Black Faces in White Places and the forthcoming Black Faces in White Places, offers his advice as a Black businessperson to other business people and in particular, white professionals. This is his advice to individual contributors, managers, executives and leaders on how to answer the question, “Where do we go from here?” Now that you’ve released your “statement” (or are debating whether to release a statement), and held your Town Hall, and articulated your commitment to racial equity, Dr. Pinkett offers his insights, and recommendations of what to do next, not only based on BCT's 20+ years of experience in diversity, equity, and inclusion, but also from what he's heard and learned from the thousands of people with whom he has facilitated dialogue since George Floyd’s tragic murder.

People really need to hear this…
some key points that jumped out...
“…discomfort is a great thing…discomfort and growth must coexist…get comfortable with being uncomfortable…”
“Do not let fear paralyze you…”

“…identify where is advantage and disadvantage playing out so you can root out those inequities…”
My question… What are the underlying time-invariant principles that when violated, lead to racist behaviors and so-called “systemic” racism, and that when applied and adhered to, lead to racial equality, or as Dr. Pinkett puts it, "dismantle racism across all four dimensions?
"

Love the way you talked about this Dr. Randal. See and be aware of color and be BRAVE in being able to talk against Racism and why its so detrimental. Discomfort shouldnt stop us from discussions of world issues. we need a better world an inclusive and loving diverse equal non judgemental non racist and spiritual world. I wish our kids see this dream world in reality !!

Discomfort is a key component for learning. We will never get to where we need to be from a place of white comfort.

Myth #9 Brother Pinkett; " I am not responsible for what my ancestors did to enslaved Africans in America, that happened a long time ago. I do not benefit from it" Your Thoughts? Newsflash Cultural intelligence is just as important Emotional intelligence. Thanks Brother Pinkett
