My neighbors won't mind too much.
I'll take one of each!

Blackmore....200w marshall majors ... Multiple stacks..knocked more than one fan unconscious at a early 70s Purple gig.

You have to remember too that for the Slash test he was using a humbucked guitar. And humbuckers are noticeably louder that single coils. So theres a good chance that that was the slight difference...

You guys should test how loud is the Hendrix signature head! I believe those are said to be the loudest in existance.

The loudest show ever for me ... had to have been " Kings X" at the "Stone Pony" in Asbury Park, NJ. Circa 1994/5 summer. This power trio was so loud. I ripped two cigarette buts off & stuffed them in my ears to stop the pain ! Sounded just like the album no doubt. Clear as could be expected. You saw your t-shirt vibrating from your chest from a wall of w-bins as every bass drum & bass guitar note was played. I had an ear infection for a week after that show. I was in the back center stage at that ... LOL. I never heard anything that loud in my life. I'm pushing 47 & seen 'em all !

aren't humbuckers louder than single coils?

110db is a Rock Concert, 120db is a 747 taking off and 130db is the Pain Threshold.

Of course the Slash was louder, Rob was using humbuckers, which gives it a bigger, louder sound. Both amps are ridiculously loud though. I'd love to play through that set up!

The reason I think why the Slash got a slightly higher value is because he played higher notes like 2:19-2:21. Especially 2:38 which you can see on his face was the one that pushed the value over 125. But I would say both are equal.

And of course the guitars or rather single coil vs humbucker is a significant factor as well.

My neighbours love my YJM100. I always hear them banging out drum beats on the wall when I crank it.

In concerts, you are actually hearing the PA system, not the amps. So, it is kind of a pointless comparison.

His first riff is from Yngwie's album Fire and Ice fantastic album, Goran Edman on vocals.

Pickups, cables, negligible difference, actually just going to compress a bit more. What will make a MAJOR difference is how close he holds that DB meter. Should be standard at 1 meter. He's holding it at about a foot away, and at that close distance, a difference of an inch or two will make a BIG difference on the sound pressure, which drops off as the square of distance from source.
According to NIOSH, you can stand about 3 seconds of 125 DB before hearing damage, but according to OSHA, you coudl take about 3 minutes and 45 seconds before damage occurs. Either way, wear earplugs.

I saw Yng live at Spreckles as a teen- no earplugs, just a miniskirt! Survived with perfect hearing and no STDs!

@michiblank the idea of the comparison was to compare Slash with Yngwie. those two guitars are the ones that the artists play respectively.

That doesn't really matter a whole lot in a test like this. Higher output pickups are just going to drive the pre-amp a little harder, its not going to make much if any detectable difference in shear DB. But it would be interesting to see where the peaks would differ at max volume between singles and buckers. Just for fun.

For the sake of making a true scientific comparison, same guitar (better yet both guitars in each amp), same cable, same cab/speakers and same riffs and a stationary DB meter.

you should do a how loud brian may rig: please!!

doesnt matter when both amps are distorted. it's like turning donw the guitars volume a bit on the lead channel of your amp, it doesn't get more quiet, it just has a bit less gain.
