Hiawatha Trail Bike Ride and Crash

We took a beautiful bike ride at the Hiawatha Trail located at the Northern Idaho/Montana state line. The ride covers 16 miles through 9 Railroad Tunnels and crosses 7 sky high Railroad Trestles. We also had one bike crash. Is it hard? Scary? Dangerous? Do you need an electric bike? See how out-of-shape 57-year-old Kathi manages after not riding a bike for decades. We finished the day with an Idaho sexy and a Coffee Stout at Radio Brewing.

I’m here in Boise and have been watching all the videos that I can find of the Hiawatha Trail. Yours is the most recent one, so far.
This has been on my list of rides to do since 2019 when at 56 I started cycling again after a 3-decade hiatus. I’m looking at doing this ride next June, and plan on starting at the Pearson Trailhead and riding to the top and back.
Thank you for taking us along on your ride. 😄🚴‍♂

Although this is the first of many many many videos I've watched about this magnificent trail, it is the first I've seen in which someone went into one of those horrible ditches in that tunnel. I understand the tunnel needs drainage, but that situation is a lawsuit waiting to happen. I hope their insurance is up to date. Some kind of grating/cover would cost a fortune, but would prevent misery, too. Someone is going to get really seriously hurt in there one day. Crashing into a tunnel wall is one thing, but having a wheel fall into that big ditch is probably not always the rider's fault. Video could prove that in a courtroom. I sure hope your wife is okay.
