ITV Central, previously known as Central Independent Television and Carlton Central and commonly referred to as simply Central, is the Independent Television franchisee for the English Midlands. It was created following the restructuring of ATV and began broadcasting on 1 January 1982. The service is owned and operated by ITV plc under the licensee of ITV Broadcasting Limited.

Central is one of more diferenciables ITV franchises, since the adoption of the cake logo in 1985 they have much interesting variations with differents textures, forms and colours, the ATV's reestruction give very results to the company

Central set the bar so high when it comes to jingles and animation that it was difficult for the other ITV stations to compete.

Even though I live in London the Central logo always has great memories. Family Fortunes, Bullseye, Auf Wiedersehen Pet, Woof, Palace Hill, Emus World to name a few. Absolutely despised Carlton in London and also ruined Central

I much preferred the 9th logo, but being very young when it was introduced it was my first. In the early 90's, on my way to school, I used to pass a truck with this logo on it. Possibly an old OB vehicle that had been sold off and never repainted. I always used to think how much better it was

Granting Carlton an ITV licence back in 1991 was a terrible mistake. The ITC should've disqualified them on quality grounds and not only Thames would've stayed but Central would've been saved from Carlton's awful branding.
