Portland region begins homeless point-in-time count

The federally mandated count of homeless people in the tri-county area ends Jan. 31. More than 200 volunteers are surveying people on the streets.

I visited Portland last week and the sheer amount of Homeless people ruined it for me. There are tent communities in most areas and this is coming from a guy who works in the Tenderloin of SF

There is a financial vested interest in not solving this homeless crisis as the local government gets funding to "solve" the homeless crisis, as long as there is still a crisis, they continue to get funding, how about we solve the problem instead of letting it continue and grow

I lived in the craphole that is Portland for 2 years. I've lived in 10 US states and nowhere else was even close to being as horrible. Even in 2006-2007 it was a homeless nightmare. I can't even imagine visiting there now, let alone living there!

This really hurts. I went to school with Kaleena!... We both grew up in North Portland together since elementary all the way to 8th grade. And to see my old childhood friend on the news, homeless, in the dead of winter, cold, scared, needing true guidance, is just crushing to the heart. Portland knows damn well that the cost of living is way out of sync with today's living cost, wages and base income for a majority of the Citizens.

Portland knows that the Meth & Opioid crisis has spread rapidly throughout the state, especially Portland and simply not doing enough about it.

It infuriates me that they are rushing such an important process and packing it all into only 72hrs! That is UNACCEPTABLE! Regardless of what, how & why these individuals are homeless now is besides the point, because its heavily affecting all the working class citizens and we are suffering because of it.

Kaleena, my heart truly goes out to you girl and I'm so sorry to see you in this situation. This is not how you wanted your life to be and I will always remember standing in line with you at the student store watching me dance in line, excited to buy some candy & chips as kids and how much you loved those damn sour & salty pickles for 50cents!... 🤣 I truly hope that you get all the love, help & support that you need because I can see the pain in your eyes baby girl and I can hear it in your voice!... 🕊
