I got this as a gift in a giveaway and it’s pretty cool of the dude to include it . We like it for what it is and it’s cut a lot of vegetables in the garden 👍👍

Bought this years ago for the cheap fun factor and South African heritage. Handle kind of sucks but the blade CUTS. And all them little steps, so satisfying. Good heat treat, as you say. Customize the pulls and hand 'em out as gifts with the steaks you serve guests!

Thanks for the review. The Kudu ring-lock is my everyday carry because it is plenty effective for everyday needs, and it doesn't cost too much. The ring-lock mechanism is strange but after you learn how to use it, the knife is as quick to deploy as any folding knife I've ever owned.
Keep your index finger inside that ring during your entire use of the knife. The ring is the key to operating it properly - opening and closing. The ring also works as a finger guard that prevents your hand from sliding up the blade and messing up your day with that razor sharp cheap-ass blade..
I use a screw-on thumb stud to open the knife, with my index finger through the ring and locked down to the handle like a torque bar. There's a technique you will develop, in time, that allows some fairly quick opening - but take it easy and steady so that you don't remove a finger..
Closing the knife requires the very same grip, but the technique requires the thumb over the back of the blade, and the fingers aligned along the back of the knife handle.
Pop the lock (ever so slightly) with your index finger and (gently) squeeze the knife closed SLOWLY with slight, slow, firm pressure from the thumb and the pinky.
Eventually you will develop your own technique that will work the knife (safely and intentionally) open and closed.
This will beat the hell out of any stupid videos that try to show you some "gangsta-style" garbage..
Folks want to replace that ring with paracord, but that's a mistake because the ring is where the magic is.
Maybe get a bigger ring if this technique doesn't immediately work for you because it is too tight of a fit.
Also, that cheap-ass 5Cr15MoV stainless steel is easily kept razor sharp, as long as you understand the limitations. You can strop it with your bare hands, if you have to. I rolled the edge one time, by stripping off some flashing from a piece of polypropylene, but with a little effort and a metal honing rod, I was able to put it back to razor sharpness pretty quick.
I wouldn't push the blade too hard, for being what it is, but as a semi-disposable knife, it ain't half bad.
This is the knife you reach for first, so you don't mess up your "real" (expensive) folding knife..

I've had one of these for a while, before they switched to 5cr. Can't remember what steel. It's a great kitchen knife too. Awesome slicer

It’s kinda like a cold steel version of an opinel. Of course they don’t look alike at all but they both have similar characteristics as far as inexpensive slicers go.
