Trimming Extremely Long Hooves On A Shetland Pony

Hi I’m a farrier from the U.K. Today I will be trimming a Shetland pony with extremely long hooves. This pony is under sedation as I am working and was given plenty of rest time between each hoof. We are now putting him under a trimming plan so his feet will get better each time.

Don’t forget to like and subscribe to my channel as I upload horse shoeing and trimming videos on a regular basis.

Hope you have a great day and I’ll see you on the next video 🤙

All that bruising in the lamina...I'm sure the poor pony had a tremendous amount of relief from this trim, although it may be sore for a while it's on the right way finally! Great work!

It's nice that you're doing this and given the horse a new pair of shoes... So it does not have to suffer

It must break your heart when you come across cases like this. Especially, as there is no need for it. I know we don't know the circumstances of the owner but am really glad that there is a programme in place for hoof trimming in the future. It does beg the question about this little chap's other needs, like general healthcare, worming etc. Is he in the right care now?

I love watching these videos. I’ll never be a farrier, but it’s fun to imagine I’m the one trimming these hooves.

Nice work turning that back into a near hoof shaped object.
It would be great to see follow up videos of these extreme trims if you get to make routine return visits.
I know these problems aren’t fixed in one go.

I think the video clips are out of order? You are shown sawing the right forehoof. And then trimming the left forehoof. And then sawing the left forehoof. And then trimming the right forehoof. And then back to trimming the left forehoof. I got a bit confused with it! Very interesting video, though.😊
