One trick you can use if its awkward to talk to camera in public is to add the commentary later during editing

WOW the ctf are insane, I usually participate in competitive programming and they only give us balloons for each challenge overcome is much less epic than that

You could use autofocus to set the initial focus point and then immediately switch to manual focus so that it will keep the focus point.
