#MotoGP Aerodynamics as you've never seen them before

Aerodynamics are a dark art in Grand Prix racing 💨

Downforce and drag, it's all a balancing act that needs to be right for outright performance! Ducati's Gigi Dall'Igna explains all!

Never heard Gigi speak before but I've seen him a thousand times 😄

That effort of doing wind simulation animation in moving video overlay...

That must be some good graphics team crew doing it 🍻

Believe this or not. More than 15 years ago on a popular international Motogp forum I asked why aerodynamics were not employed on MotoGP motorcycles. At the time I was not only a rider, but an F1 fan as well. It made sense to me that with the machines capable of going over 200mph, it would be beneficial to make onrushing air your friend instead of your enemy. I was told at the time by the forum "experts" that it was not possible and was a silly idea! Lol - here we are 15+ years later and aerodynamics are an accepted part of MotoGP machines.

Interesting they removed the ground effect module for this. Ducati keeping the big cards close to their chest huh👀

Pecco n Gigi big respect! Gigi is a GoD when it comes to bikes! Pecco had that race. Damn air temp dropping at end of race coast him that race. But pecco went with the hard infront he be on top if the air temp just stayed a few degrees higher for the last 2 laps. Breaks my heart. Ducati gotta win it all 2022!

I love MotoGP for bringing this type of videos for us presented by the very teams racing.

This is why MotoGP is the most advance motorbike racing in the world. The engine, electronics, and aerodynamics can be developed as a prototype bike, seems like R&D on day to day basis.
Oh, and not forgetting the Computational Fluid Dynamic also.

Ducati has always been the pioneer of technology in MotoGP and they have the best bike on the grid which now can technically win at any circuit. I think once they get the “team management ” right, they’re gonna be unstoppable like Mercedes in F1 from 2014-2020.
Of course, I hope other teams catch up too. Close racing is why we love MotoGP after all .

When watch the new technique from Rossi before cornering, I am thinking…Why don’t add a “Wing” on the suit? Just add a triangular elastic fibre wing behind the knee, thigh and calf. That should increase the surface area for decreasing the speed. And during the straight line, the extra wing acts like an aerodynamic side wing? It’s only my thought…

I'm guessing the next logical step in MOTOGP is to start working on the inclusion of Air Breaks. By using pop out fins as per break input.
Or....rotating winglets 😉 and the side fairing opening slightly like a butterfly 🦋

Working with aircraft you see the elements of aerodynamics incorporated into all vehicles now days . I remember unlimited hydroplane’s and when they added inlet cowls for better engine performance and to deflect water from going in the engines, adding side strakes to keep the boat from sliding in turns rear wings to produce down force all of these elements have been incorporated into most racing vehicles . Very cool to see how it is applied to the motorcycle to help cooling, stability and speed . Thanks for the video

I always suspected Gigi might be a wizard, 2:57 is the proof. In all seriousness, keep the technical stuff coming guys. Mr Crafar was probably a little bummed out that he couldn't do this one. His tech talks and the "Hot Seat" onboard videos are my favs.

At its introduction I hated the looks of the '21 Duck but must admit that thing does look badass screaming past EVERYBODY at 230 mph. What a ride!
