This guy in the thumbnail was a pastor. And believe it or not, a lot of people took him seriously and followed him in the 1950s. Now, I know that you’re thinking that he looks more like a pimp from a blaxploitation film than a pastor - or maybe those are just my thoughts. But his flock thought that he was an amazing preacher and healer. And when 2 sisters thought that this guy, Prophet Jones, gave them a word from God to heal their mother in 1953…they (on their teachers’ salaries) bought him a $12,900 mink coat. To put it into perspective - that $12,900 in 1953 had the same buying power as $144,000 today in 2023.
It's a Hot Mess History Ordinary People scandal from Ti. Enjoy!

I grew up in Detroit in the 60's & 70's. I heard my parents talk about Prophet Jones..and it wasn't positive 🤭 He appeared quite flamboyant 👀 We had another flashy..flamboyant preacher from that Era in Detroit..Reverend Boyd 😜 My parents attended Boyd's church in the 50's/60's. My mom went back to the Boyd church for a visit one time & took me as a teenager. He used to give out the "numbers" in money lines at his church (personally witnessed that) & on the radio..by code 🤣

Just imagine what they could have done for THEMSELVES if they had saved and applied that same discipline towards Generational Wealth. Great Video, Ti ❤

Lmao, I had to rewatch this to believe it!!😂😅. Profit Jones was Pimp Guru, he absolutely looked like an actor straight out of a 70’s film! Also, I cannot believe there were not one not -two -but three siblings foolish enough to supply this guy w/a mink coat and $3900 car!! That’s a special kinda lunacy!!

Great Content. Love the historical tea. Preaching has always been rife with charlatans, con men and swindlers, not to mention sexual deviants. Quoting PT Barnum, allegedly, "A sucker is born every minute". Your story definitely highlights the quote.

You ignored Prophet Jone’s rather special relationship with a group of young men he always kept nearby. Or how he would frequently take his small entourage of church members to all night movie theaters then fall asleep in the back of the theater. My mother would often hit the numbers Prophet Jones would give out too. Just sayn’…

This is still happen today especially in Nigeria, where pastors are worshipped and they keep giving their all to fund their pastor's flamboyant lifestyles. And here many fear talking bad about a man of God🤣 cause they are fed that script "touch not my anointed and do my prophet no harm" so many don't question, they just do what they are told, many give their first fruit aka, all their salary in January to a dustie pastor
