1) you need a GSM sim card such as ATT Tmobile sim card
2) prepaid is ok, make sure it is GSM, and with data plan. voice plan is not necessary but can not be disabled. otherwise, you can not call GPS device to get the realtime location

The device does not turn on with a single press of the on/off button, it needs to be held in for at least 4 seconds . Just in case of any confusion.

I activated a t mobile gsm sim card and have it correctly installed. When I hold down the on button, the green led turns on but never blinks (this is the same thing it will do if you turn it on without the sim card inserted). Any idea why its not working?

the sim works, I placed it in a phone and successfully called the sim.

At 2:16 you need to clarify that you're entering YOUR cellphone number, not the device's number. I have to say that of all the video's I have watched on this device this is the worst. There's very little information here. I'll take a pass on your product because of this video.
