Yes India (and some other countries) buy the license to built the Alouette III and the LAMA (Alouette 2 with a more powerfull Alouette 3 engine, for high altitude operations also use as small flying crane) in India by Industan aeronautics, but some parts, like the engines comes from France (Turbomeca)...

This helicopter is a Sud Aviation Alouette III, a old model from the 60', (the Chetak type are built under license en India, between 1965 and 1990).The Alouette III is, with the Alouette 2 and Lama (Alouette 2 overpowered for high altitude operations), one of the biggest world export success for France. Some French helicopters are still use in the USA, like the Dolfin (Coast guards), actualy refitted with Turbomeca Ariel engines (in place of the unreliable Lycoming engines)...

this helicopter are a variant of Alouette III, it's old helicopter. 1959 first fly :p

it has to be skinned down to the skeleton because these choppers have to operate on the highest battlefield on the Earth, the Siachen Glacier. The army posts which these helicopters supply are at a height of 18, 000 ft!
