Remember when the innocent girl witnessed a murder, suffered from PTSD, and was possessed by an inhuman destructive force? That was fun.

This season was written by Chiaki Konaka who also wrote Serial Experiments: Lain. If you didnt know.

4kids when editing Pokémon: Japanese food that’s too much for children.
Saban when editing Digimon: Ya this is fine for the children.

Hey, remember that creepy episode from Digimon's second season with the Dark Ocean and Scubamons? Wondered what would happen if they let the writer of that episode handle an entire season? This is the result.

This season had darker themes because the guy who worked on it did a massively popular dark anime years before and wanted to add those undertones into Digimon. Shockingly it paired well making this one of the world's favorite seasons of Digimon.

This series was WAY beyond it's time, and yes for kids. Muddied depictions of real life like this are the best ways for kids to learn how to handle stuff.

Gotta use that line one day

I really liked Tamers. It was the perfect combination of dark themes and funny moments for me.

I love how dark this season was. It really tackled some more mature themes than the rest of the seasons.

You know, when I was watching this season as a kid I may not have fully appreciated the thematic contribution of the digimon literally having their fucking skin peel off in the transformation sequences

In comparison to Pokemon, Digimon was closer to it's original Japanese version. Tamers was the first to be left alone as it was in terms of story at the time.

The short answer to this question is "yes of course" but the long answer is "yes of course but it just happens to be a kids show that just so happens to be headed up by the creator of Serial Experiments Lain so things are going to get a little... odd."

Tamers, or Chiaki J. Konaka did an excellent job with Digimon as a concept. Digimon is a world of murderous creatures inside of a world of kill or be killed, and the other Digimon seasons treat the Digital world like it's their second home. The Digital World is something to be feared, and is not suitable for children. that's why i love Tamers so much

If you wanted to sell the whle "For kids?" angle...then you probably should have kept Rika's biomerge.

This show honestly scared me sometimes as a kid

Well, that's Chiaki J. Konaka writing for you. The guy who made Lain, RanXephon, Ghost Hound and Shadow Star.
Also, he's a fan of Lovecraft and Chtulu mythos.
