Hello Mark, Avoid batoning with this model at all costs, as you will quickly end up causing damage to the handle; the blade will detach from the inner coating and will become loose. With very light batoning, mine lasted 10 minutes. The knife still works, but the blade now wobbles irreversibly. I should mention that I am a fan of batoning, but since this bad experience, I only use knives that can withstand it. I’m glad to see that you are doing well and that you are still regularly posting videos. Thanks again for sharing. 👍

Thank you for the tip about using a cheaper knife to learn to sharpen. I’m new to this art, so lots to learn. I enjoy your videos, have already learned a bit. Thanks

Useful to have an inexpensive knife that you won’t worry about using, and a great backup or survival kit knife

One way to pull the knife (same as what I do with my coldsteel finn hawk because it doesn’t have a thumb ramp) is to hold on to the landyard and push off from the top of the belt loop. So in effect the top of the belt loop acts as the thumb ramp.

Oh wow. I just sent you a comment about using a cheaper knife to learn to sharpen. Then used your tip about decathlon. Went to their site, and will have a few things delivered to the house in a small town in a week. Awesome service. I owe you one. Thanks

Appreciate the description and review, Mark. I was very curious about the tang length, given the cautions you had with the last knife you reviewed, and I was happy to hear that it seemed to have a little more "meat" to the tang than the last one. Probably not a knife I'm going to be looking at seriously, but always nice to have options!

Calm review with nice advices. And besides, it is still a knife and not a axle, batoning is not something i want from a knife.

Always nice to see something with reasonable quality at a good price. I don’t know if I’d use a true scandi on a lesser metal either though, but if it comes with no bevel, it gives the choice.

G'day Mark, further to my comments on your previous vid.
Re: carving, when in the mood, I take a 3 piece carving kit consisting of Moras 105, 164 hook and a Companion.
Now thats all well and good for any carving/whittling I'll ever do on a small scale.
However, if you just a have single knife for carving, I reckon you need more belly than this one, especially to cater for lack of a hook knife. Personally, I tend to rely on a SAK Ranger 78 in this instance, just that bit extra belly for the concave makes all the difference IMO.
Admittedly I havent hunted in years, but I'd suggest a similar principle for a hunting/skinning job.
Cheers Duke.

Thanks Mark, it’s been sold out for a while now in Canada (my local store was kind of empty a few weeks ago across the board, i wonder why they can’t maintain stock, maybe the cheap pricing requires complete turnover?) but maybe if it comes back next year at the same price…

Another good looking knife there. I really do appreciate when I find anything that is cheap and functional. Thanks for sharing this one Mark.

1:54 I gave a finger a good nick while gripping the sheath to pull my knife out and didn't notice one finger was above the top of the sheath... ZINNNNG ... that feeling when you know what you've done

Looks nice but i think i will stay with Hultafors GK. In my country its 15 euros.(Hultafors GK 10 euros, Solognac 15 euros)

If I had that knife I would only strop it, not sharpen on a ceramic stick.

5cr is garbage for just about everything IMHO. Much better knives for $20!

If you like this knife, you better get it now. Every time Mark reviews a knife, the price goes up, and it goes out of stock……..😘🤪🤣 ✌️🇺🇸🇨🇦✌️
