Dan, my dad raised me pretty much the same way as you. My dad striped my ass when I needed it, but he never beat me. I thank my dad every day for it. it made me a better man.
We weren't abused, we were taught right from wrong.

His dad is most defiantly proud of his son.
God bless them.

That title sounds a bit extreme compared to what he actually said.

His dad sounds great and his non bitter attitude towards him is even better.

His dad doesn't sound abusive. Seems like a pretty good dad actually.

Abusive? I never heard him say that. Sounds like a normal dad.

This title is really misleading and the way you where trying to get him to say his dad beat him was really bad journalism. The rest of the videos you have of this interview are great though.

This is a prime example of honoring your parents. While Larry came to terms with it, others would see it as abuse and it very well could hinder their lives. The compassion he showed his Dad seems to be the key. He did the best he could based on the lense which he viewed his role as a father.

Kids with abusive dads, tend to not make it too far in life, especially when the dad never builds you up, but only tears you down..

90% of people from his era were raised the same.

Teachers definitely treat you differently if your parents works with them. My mom was a principal, and I couldn't breathe without a teacher running to tell my mom.
