All motion is relative to the observer. If the core moves faster, from the observer it is going forward. If the core moves slower, from the observer it is going in reverse. Deceleration is the same as acceleration in the opposite direction. The Earth’s core is reversing for all important purposes, as in the effect it’s motion relative to the upper layers of the earth affects the magnetic field of the earth.

Journalists always get science wrong. It’s why there is such a huge mistrust with Media and Science.
