Well Mate WM-6 Pressure Tank Installation & Intermittent Well Pump Troubleshooting

My well pump started cycling very fast, and would even turn off sometimes. The pressure was also varying a lot when it did work. After finding water coming out of the air valve, I ordered a new Wellmate pressure tank and this shows the replacement process. Make sure to empty the tank before disconnecting!

Your video was precisely the same settup as mine and was exactly what I needed to see to have the courage to do it myself. I got a tank for $300. I was nervous about cutting the pipe using the "other wrench" for fear I wouldn't be able to remove the stub going into the tee, but it did loosen up and all went extremely well. Thank you for making this video!!!!

Great video. I had a bad Wellmate tank with the same issue you had. I replaced it as well but your video confirmed my thoughts. Now the old tank is going to be repurposed into raise garden beds. We live in Costa Rica and everything gets repurposed. Thank you

Great video and thanks for posting. My old tank probably had a ruptured bladder and was making the pump go on every 40 secs so I just purchased the same Well-Mate system tank as you did. Appreciate the installation video along with the comments as I feel more comfortable making it a DIY project. Quotes from plumbing companies to replace the pressurized well tank were all around $2, 000 - saved more than 75%. (Will definitely drain all the rusty water from tank before disconnecting)

What a helpful video! Thank you. I was going to call plumbers for quotes, but this showed me this is definitely a doable DIY.

QUESTION: Where did you buy your replacement tank?

The bladders in these well mate fiberglass tanks are actually replaceable!

Thank you for your post on installing a pressure tank. Can you tell me what the diameter was on the nipple you screwed into your main line? I am going to have to put a PVC nipple on my pipe and screw the piece that comes with the pressure tank into that. If you know what size that male thread was, that would help me immensely.

Going through this now. I can't get any more than 18 PSI in the tank (Same Wellmate one). Tanks are up to $800 for the 47 gallon one now!! I'm going to try the replacement air bladder route and see how that goes. Just the bladder is $350! Ain't inflation wonderful?!

Thanks for sharing. That's an odd connector and I wasn't sure what to do with it, if it needed an interim pvc pipe or what --had this tank for a few years and forgot about the quick connect setup. Anyway, that funky connector looks like it would leak with all that pressure. Thanks!

Thanks for video - But how many liter water runs from tank to house - before pump turns on? (aproximantly)

If you pressurized the top you would have pushed 99% of the water out....and you ccould have just replaced the bladder in the tank had you not cut the grey plactic fitting....granted a new bladder is 2/3 the cost of a whole tank

Drain tank a bit and add air. No need for new tank!
