DRIVING A SCHOOL BUS DURING A HEAT WAVE!

I work for a more rural district in Virginia. During summer school, we hit 90s. We even got 90s last October. No AC, just run those windows down and wear shorts and tees or occasionally tank tops if it’s bad. The parents and schools understand why we’re dressing down to keep cool. Since my middle school run finished early this summer before rollout from elementary school, we spent those 40 minutes down time between runs in an empty classroom with their ac.

Down here in Georgia I shut off the bus (which HAS a/c) when parking and I kid you not I am sweating before I even get to the back for the child check.

Heat and humidity sucks. Wouldn't wish it on anyone.

About two months ago my class took a trip to Universal Studios in Orlando. My school rented out some crappy local coach bus. Long story short the buses AC broke. Mind you this is in central Florida during the summer/late spring and on a coach bus where the windows can’t open. To say the least we had an hourlong drive in a 120 degree bus.

I've heard (and also experienced) that having only half the windows open cools the bus down better.... I alternate windows - every odd window on the right side, and every even window on the driver side. I've found cross breezes blow through the bus more effectively like this.

Rechargeable fans they help alot! Just male sure you get a rechargeable one with a big enough battery, so it'll last like 9 hours on high!

Most of the busses in my local district still don’t have AC and it gets hot. I was so happy when I got my license so I didnt have to ride in the heat

I had a run this week, heat index above 100. The worst was monday where the district had a bad drop off that put me in a different schools special needs bus line. They had AC but wouldn't let me around for 15.

Other than that it was fine as long as the bus keeps moving. Been doing summers with no AC for a few years now. As long as it's not a Thomas bus I'm fine out there.

Most bus drivers for my school don’t turn on the AC in the first place. It’s so stupid and if the company doesn’t allow it then why spend extra for it

My school district has a mixture of buses with and without AC. During summer, they only use AC equipped buses!

ClawBoss, do you know Pioneer Transportation Corp located on Arthur Kill RD, Staten Island NY? They have many great busses. Propane ICs, BlueBirds, 1st gen BlueBirds. Pretty good corp.

I had a fully AC’d bus this summer and I got another fully AC’d bus for this coming year. My bus last year didn’t have it and it was brutal on hot days.

90.F and 94.F isn’t that bad where I live, Australia

90.F and 94.F converts to 32.C and 34.C.

We can get days that go up to 114.F (45.C)!

122 F Hightest--- down to 114f lowest, last 10 Days in Central Alabama on starting bus for PM trip.
Maybe goes down to 102 F at Coolest, no AC. Up to 70 Souls in pm.
Common in Alabama where only 1/2 Of Full Size school bus's are A.C..
Now a Situtation where Your Physically around Bus 6, 8,10 Hours between shifts, , , whew Dude, , . Gotta Love ones job or it's all one Can do.
Stay hydrated, get a Ice filled horse shoe neck cooler. Saved my 65 yo bacon
