Those q&a videos have become an essential base of knowledge for me. Highly appreciate your work, time and passion you invest in doing all this. 🙏

Great example with "it's like someone else Eqing your content without you knowing it"

Just discover this channel, I am studying Mix and Mastering in the university of west london, and some of your videos help me a lot to understand some of the mistakes I use to make mixing. Thanks for your videos they are gold!

There is a cool way to implement linear phase analog EQ (send it through twice, second time reversing the audio). Check out the Dan Worrall video about it. Super nifty technique.

Wow David, this is huge! Haha... when I first started
in Pro Tools, I hated parallel compression for
this very reason :) Thanks! You are awesome!

No need to excuse the fact that your content is full of information, but good of you to respond. In time, with experience and plenty of info, processes become second-nature, ear develops, and you don't need to over-think all that info anymore. Until it comes time to teach! Keep it comin'

This is why I haven’t been a fan of that “Bob Power” Pultec thing where you parallel compress the kick into a Pultec (it always seems to lose coherence). Pultec in serial works much better when used responsibly

you should Review Crave Eq, it sounds pretty good also Sonoris Mastering Eq. Nice Video as always

Interesting subject, I have a couple questions:
1) Would eq-ing before sending to parallel channel affect too much the dry also? For example, I use to filter heavily the parallel, to remove muddiness and excessive lows that can derail the compression.
2) Ok for compensating this eventual phase shift with additional EQ, but doesn't the phase shift also cause transient smearing (potentially)? How would you counterweight it?

awesome david, what has happened to me after doing a few mixes for hours i get to a point where it seems all working huge breathing and just great, like reference mixes, then i go five moves more maybe try a few diff plugs here and there and bang it goes to shit lol, i always mix into cytomics glue and find you can really open or crush your final image with that, its my workflow now i always run into it as my final master before outing it, im getting brilliant sounding mp3 mixes anyway, but micro moves in there are vital, as i say a few plugin changes can make or break it there, that golden place when its right walk away and put the kettle on i find :)

Great video! I have this problem when I have two bass channels (electronic music) And want to have Sub Bass from only one channel. I always get some weirdness going on at the cutoff frequencies. Not sure what to do about it.

Thank you very much David, for the detailed and very well explained content. I wish you all the best.
Would it also be a solution to eq the paralel channel with a linear phase eq?
