What's the price of living in paradise?🌴🌴 | ABC Australia

As the cost-of-living crisis bites hard, consider the additional costs associated with living on a remote island.

At the local shop, a jar of instant coffee is $17.

Locals on Lord Howe Island order their groceries weeks in advance to come in aboard the Island Trader supply ship. Not only do they have to wait for the tide to be high enough for the ship to dock, it adds several hundred dollars to their grocery bill.

People say the sky-high prices take a toll, but are offset by a simple island lifestyle and neighbours helping each other out.

It’s a paradise to live but there’s a price to pay, far away from amenities, such as hospitals, schools, airports, grocery stores.

Cheaper on Russell island 🏝 the most affordable waterfront freehold land in metro brisbane suburbs. 50c return trip per adult on passenger ferry ⛴️.

Would be great to increase investment by improving infrastructure, building more resorts, and more apartment buildings.
