Starbond CA Glue for Wood Tips & Tricks: Episode 4

Cyanoacrylate glue better known as CA glues have revolutionized many tasks in the woodworking shop from filling wood cracks, knot holes and wood defects brown and black CA glues, to making extremely solid glue joints, instantly when used with accelerators and to to mention the thousands of woodturners who use CA glues to make a glossy, rock hard finish on their turned pens and bowls. I seem to find new uses for CA glue every week and for woodworkers like me that work alone, CA glues is often that third hand we need during more complicated woodworking projects and custom furniture builds. The woodworking community is fortunate to have Starbond Glues as supplier that is frequently introducing new products specific to woodworking that go a long way to helping woodworkers, woodturners and hobbyists in our shops and wood rooms.

You fully disclosed Starbond sponsorship and even give a discount code. Way to go. I have tried CA glue on chip brushes before and it warms great EXCEPT with epoxy. The epoxy acts like a solvent on the CA glue and ruins the finish as it clumps and mixes. Great tips keep up the good work!

After use if the cap is put on immediately CA glue still fills the small tip of the bottle and then plugs. To alleviate this I've now set the bottle down and let the glue retreat into the bottle for a minute or two, then squeeze the bottle to force any glue left in the tip out. I quickly wipe off the end and then put on the cap. No more plugged tips on the glue bottles.

Great tips. I had not thought of the idea of using CA glue to keep those loose, hairy bristles attached at the ferrule of those handy, low-cost brushes, which I use as glue spreader-applicators. And appreciate the reminder of their "debonder" product. (I think you probably can figure out why I say that!)

Great tips, mate, cheers. 👍🏽
Quick Tip, if you glue your finger to the board or whatever, twist it off and it will come away easier and pain free without tearing skin, unlike trying to peel it off.

Like the knot idea will use that one 👍

Love Starbond products. I use a few drops on joints along with my normal wood glue. The CA + accelerator holds the joint together quickly and no clamps are needed.

Thanks for this. I've been looking for a CA glue I can trust and this looks very promising. I like that they have many different types for different applications. Thank you for the info!

Great tips, Colin. The trick with the bristles on the cheapie paint brushes is AWESOME. I have lost a lot of religion retrieving stray brush hairs out of a freshly painted/ varnished piece, which defeats the potential time savings of a disposable brush. Even if you clean out the brush for re-use, the brush goes 'bald' very shortly.

Since this topic is on CA glue. If you ever get some on your skin, let it fully cure then you can use some 300 grit sandpaper to sand it off very easily

Not sure if tested yet, but CA GLUE and Baking Soda make a really strong and hard composite.

I use that when I need to a heavy duty fix or filling. You can even sand and paint it.

I use star bond all the time, great stuff. Those in doubt put two drops on a couple
of boards hit with the accelerator try and pull it

Hi Colin
I missed using you CA discount code by a few days. My mind thought it went to the end of the month of October. Question; do you think you will ever have another code for the Starbond company? BTW, I have never purchased their product, but would like to try them out. Thanks for your time in answering my question. D Miller

Great tips Colin.
You mentioned something in this video about putting CA glue in the fridge. I have never heard that before. Is this something that do with all glues or just CA. And for CA do you put it in the fridge only after it has been opened, or should this be done for new unopened bottles also.
Thanks Ron
Love your info you put out there for us beginners.
