Love my obgyn! He prescribed meds to dilate the cervix to take two days before, used lidocaine, and I didn’t feel a thing! I was so nervous about it too because of all the horror stories.

Personally, love my iud, best birthcontrol ive ever had. But youre right, being told "you'll feel just a pinch" when it feels like you've been stabbed on the inside is insane. Was told to just take advil for the inflammation. Was layed up at home for 2 days after from the pain.

I was in so much pain the dr panicked and misplaced it in my cervix and I was pregnant 2 months later thinking I had protection for 5 years. I love my son but I would advocate for an ultrasound post-insertion and not just a string check (which I went to)

I have a really high tolerance for pain. I thought I was going to pass out and then pass away when I got my first IUD removed and my second inserted. The first IUD placement was bad but not nearly as bad as the second.

Thank you. While not directly related to an IUD (though i have had 1 and the extricating pain during placement and removal made me not what to get another one) we seriously need to know that we can advocate for anesthesia. i had a cervical biopsy. They said once you cough well cut the specimen. They said i didbt cough hard enogh to cut. I had a full blown hyperventilating panic attack with annoyed male nurses and a male doctor surrounding me. They have be she orange juice and forced me back into the procedure as they had other patients waiting. Knowing that part of you would be cut out without any pain management is enough to scare anyone. It was horrible and traumatic and everyone acted like i was the problem. Btw- it hurt as much as you'd expect a knife cutting up your flesh unsedated to feel.

I got one in. It was horrific. I was in so much pain I almost passed out, I could barely walk. The doctor scurried out and shouted back that I could stay as long as I needed and to have a good day.
I laid there for 10 minutes, no one checked on me. I stumbled my way out to my car and drove home. It never stopped hurting.
Called and asked was told it was normal for my first time

Turns out I got a raging infection and then I had an almost deadly reaction to the antibiotic I was prescribed.

When I went to get it out my husband came with me to drive. She actually asked me several times if I was sure I wanted it out. I kept saying no and finally after the 3rd time my husband snapped at her to take the fucking thing out and to stop asking me as I had made it clear I didn’t want it.

I ended up with scarring on my cervix which hurt horribly every time I get my period.
I was never offered anything for my pain or even told to take something before I came.

I and many others I know who've had a breast biopsy done with just a local anesthetic feel it's absolutely criminal not to be offered another option for pain. I've had many Orthopedic surgeries in my life and that breast biopsy was probably the most painful procedure I've ever had in my life!

Just had my first colposcopy and it was the most painful thing I have ever experienced. I asked my gyno and multiple people in her office how painful this procedure was and what I should expect. The response I got is everyone is different. Which I feel really didn't prepare me for the procedure at all. Not to mention that during the procedure the pain was so unbearable I asked for a quick break and was told oh we are almost done I am just going to keep going. Ty so much for creating a list of doctor that take this pain seriously. I will definitely be booking my next appointment with someone on that list.

My OBGYN was super good at warning me it may hurt. They didnt give medicine to help during placement, though. He did offer help for a week afterwards, though, because i had severe cramping. Still worth it, though. I got severe cramping every cycle and this stops them for me

My first iud I managed to convince them to put me under general anesthesia. I had crazy horrible cramps for a couple of hours but muscle relaxers and oxy helped.
Then my doctor convinced me to try switching it out for a new one while awake.
The guy inserting it was very experienced and very concerned for my wellbeing, I sounded like a woman in advanced labour during every local numbing shot in my cervix (all four wheeee). The switching itself was OK once I was numbed up, but I am absolutely unequivocally never doing that awake again.

Absolutely, even thought Mirena has so many pros when choosing this as a long term birthcontrol. The procedure of the placement and removal is absolutely horrible, LIKE A 20 OUTTA 10 ON THE PAIN LEVEL I PERSONALLY WOULDNT RECOMMEND. I myself had a Mirena placed, my obgyn made me take a cervix softening medication the night before the procedure and the day of the procedure to help my cervix soften up enough to allow the Mirena to be placed without so much pain. That medication did absolutely nothing for me so much that when my obgyn was trying to place the Mirena she asked me "did you take the medication I called in for you as prescribed?" (once the night before, and the day of). My cervix was hard as a diamond. I wasn't offered any type of pre medication for anxiety nor post medications to help with the pain the procedure created

IUD have saved my sanity and sex life. I did feel all of it, but I just thought that was the birth control.
I was just so glad to have 99%
Not getting pregnant again was alot more important than the moments of pain and the cramping after.

I hope I can get my next IUD inserted under anesthesia. I had my current one inserted with pain medication taken prior to procedure, local anaesthetic to the cervix, and a pain whistle and I was still in EXCRUCIATING pain, I almost passed out 😢 it's really disappointing how much women's pain and experiences are constantly overlooked

I was held down by multiple male and female nurses while being given a colposcopy. They refused to use the topical anaesthetic, the only thing that was available. It was right there on the tray. It was a horror show and not a single one of them expressed any regret or hesitation about any of it.

I love having my IUD and will not get it taken out till it expires BECAUSE I got NO pain management whatsoever. I handled it fine and was a little dizzy after, however, I passed out in the car on the way home. My husband freaked out and pulled over. It was a terrifying experience. I wish all OBs and Dr offices would give the option. 😢

My gyno has often commented on my ability to handle discomfort during procedures and my several insertions and removals.

I am so terrified to go to the DR ever again, and I'm keeping my daughter from going until absolutely necessary. But I would go to you❤❤

I think doctors should offer things when they could actually benefit their patients not just because it's new, popular or helps tons of people. Right after the birth of my 3rd child, I was asked what contraception I would use. I haven't used anything, and all my kids are 4 years+ apart. My "midwife" kept trying to push this on me, and I told her I didn't need it. She kept on even after I said no, and I told her a firm no. I don't want things planted inside my body for birth control, and I birth control in general (tablets, etc) just don't work for me and my lifestyle. I think listening to your patients and not just telling everyone and anyone to use this method just because it's popular or it works for many. Some people who really need to control how often they get pregnant or never want to be..this maybe would be best. I think doctors over prescribe, too.

I felt a pinch. Not much.

Then incredible cramping as I was waiting for an unrelated prescription about 25 minutes later.

My poor daughter, she had an IUD. It hurt like hell going in, string was cut too short, IUD slipped sidways and had to be removed and replaced. Then daughter had it taken out and it hurt like hell. She said, "NEVER EVER AGAIN"!
