You might already know the story of heroes like Captain Vikram Batra, but there are many other heroes who fought in the Kargil War whose stories remain unknown. One such hero is Captain Neikezhakuo Kenguruse from Nagaland.
During the 1999 Kargil War, Captain Kenguruse's battalion was tasked with destroying an enemy post located at an altitude of 16,000 feet. As they ascended, they came under heavy gunfire, and Captain Kenguruse was hit by a bullet in his abdomen.
Despite this, he continued to advance. In the -10 degree cold, he even threw away his boots because they were slipping. Upon reaching the top, he launched rockets at 7 enemy bunkers.
Heavy gunfire was directed at them, but he did not stop until he had destroyed all the bunkers. After that, he also killed four more enemy soldiers.
The soldiers completed their mission, but 25-year-old Captain Kenguruse was martyred by gunfire. He was given a full military honor at his funeral, and his sacrifice was recognized with the Maha Vir Chakra.
