These guys are awesome! In 1974 the Clovers came to the Buccaneer Club (known as 'The Buc') in Greenville NC for a one-night show, as they were touring, and on their way to Raleigh. They didn't tour with their own band at that time, but did have the scores/sheet-music for the songs they sang. I was in the house-band at the Buc and had the rare pleasure to be in the band playing the back up music for there guys. It was a pleasure meeting them and having that rare opportunity. (I was 20 years old at the time).

What a wonderful trip back in time to some of the best Early Rock, all preserved on You Tube for us older folks who grew up when this style of singing was first started.

"Love Potion No. 9" is a song written in 1959 by Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller. It was originally performed by the Clovers, who took it to No. 23 on the US as well as R&B charts that year. The Searchers recorded it in 1964 and reached No.3 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 and No. 2 on Cash Box during the winter of 1965

As a Baby Boomer, I’ve (we’ve) been exposed to incredible music: my parents’ Big Band music, crooners, the 50s, 60s, 70s, etc. “Love Potion #9” is one of my early favourites! In fact, I played it on my guitar today.
This was a fantastic video. The audience was into it, and the suits were vintage early R & B and Motown!
