Thank you for commenting on the grease! New bike owner here and I have seen this a lot and was wondering. Got my question answered.

I have two air filters, when one is dirty I put it in a bucket of water and Dove dish soap for the week. The other I use KTM oil and install it in the bike. Once I'm ready to change them out, the other goes in a fresh water and Dove dish soap. It's so easy and works perfect!

Glad that you explained why we used to run grease on the filter. For me in the newer bikes I’ve never run it I see no reason to use it in fact I see more problems with it or just introducing more stuff to fall off later when you remove the filter. Of course you’re going to clean the airbox anyhow but why make it even more difficult. as you mentioned, The seal is very good nowadays and there’s no way that air is going to pass through.

Man that filter goes on nice! My 06 450X is a nightmare. I can see why you wouldnt need grease on that at all

I have a twin air oil tub with maxima filter oil, I don't pour it on, I simply submerge the air filter and then squeeze it out, it's the best way to oil a filter.

Maxima FFT is the BEST - it stays on the FILTER - *KTM for the win*

What if there is a few dirt specs getting through?

Moto Minded also makes a plastic disk that goes on the tip of your filter to prevent it from getting worn through. It is quite cheap and effective. You can also buy filters that are flame resistant if you want to run without a screen and are concerned.

I clean my air filter after every ride and hang it on the washing line once I finish off the full clean of the bike back on oiled clean and ready to ride.

Great video as usual. Personally I’m quite happy with the plastic zip bag technic. In case you never heard of it : A little engine oil in a zip bag, zip it, shake it, put the air filter in and squeeze it. Fast, cheap, clean and efficient.

Thanks for the great tips. Just bought a Husqvarna Te250i...my second bike. First was a Honda CRF 300L. Totally different filter maintenance on that rig. Wondering if someone can help me better understand how often it needs to be cleaned? I realize it depends on a number of factors, but if I am riding in very muddy and dusty environments for a couple hrs at a time, after roughly how many rides should it be cleaned/replaced? I don't know how to tell how dirty it should look before doing so. Also... dealership told me it's easier to just buy around 3 new filters for each season - wondering opinions on that. Thanks

Just curious if you have ever used the fft oil in a tub and submerged the filter? Something like the twin air cleaning and oiling tubs?

Keep an eye out. The airbox rubber boot started to warp and curl on my 2019 300i jeopardizing the seal. Not sure if this was an isolated incident or part of a larger problem.

How long does it take for the oiled air filter to dry?

I always let the filter dry completely. and always use grease on rim

No grease on a 97 YZ250 filter ? My filter has a rib that’s on the area of the seal that touches the air box. It’s not flat and smooth like Rado’s bike

Hello I have a 2008 200 xcw is this a year where you would need to use grease ?
What do you think about the neoprene thing you put on the edge

Yeah I'm 60 and still feel like I need to grease the sealing area of the filter. I need to break that old school habit. I have a new 2024 KTM 150 xc w and I just cannot get the side panel off. The owners manual says to remove the screw but for the life of me I can't find a screw? Does it pop on? I'm used to my Hondas and Yamahas that had screws holding everything together. What's the secret with this KTM?
