Native Americans, Ireland and a debt not forgotten

When the Great Famine struck Ireland in the 1840's members of the Choctaw Nation, a native American tribe from Oklahoma sent $170 dollars to Ireland to help alleviate the suffering. The Choctaw people who had been forced from their own lands identified with the struggle the Irish were facing with the British presence in Ireland. Some 170 years later it was Ireland's turn to return the favor. Enjoy this great story courtesy of NBC.

As an Irish person it’s great to see people come together to help each other. The native Americans still need a lot of help to get equal rights in America I hope it happens soon

I’m Irish and I have lived in Ireland all my life, we have always been told of the generosity of these people. They helped us when no one (and I mean no one) helped. To our Soul brothers and sisters much love from Eire ❤

Such great generosity shown by the Choctaw people to a nation that would have felt so far away in those times.
On another point It's unbelievable that some people will go to any lengths to skew the truth and history and are in denial of what the British state and ruling classes did in Ireland back then. Of course they starved and did all they could to eradicate the Irish population.... How great it is that they failed

This video made me come close to tears and gave me goosebumps. As an Irishman I knew the story of the American natives, who suffered under the American government, yet they, who had nothing sent Aide to the Irish people. People are people no matter where, Governments are the ones that continually try to destroy us. 💚💚💚💚
