Orania Is a South African town with only white residents. They segregated themselves from the rest of South Africa In order to preserve their culture.

I am a black South African and I honestly don't see anything wrong with what they are doing they are not bothering anyone they are just living their lives and so should everyone.

What they're doing is a constitutional right, which is granted to all cultural groups in South-Africa.

Maybe learn from them instead of casting aspersions through a race specific lens of outrage.

The only reason why Orania is hated is because they are successful. If it was a horrible place that was a dump, it wouldn't be controversial.

The context for Orania is the fact that its founders thought South Africa would be a failed state, and they were right.

Think about what you would do of you knew the country around you was going to turn into a place where crime is a major problem, the economy is run by communists who just voted for a law that allows the state to take your property without compensation, there is no electricity, water shortages are a reality. What would YOU do? Vote harder?

Getting a bunch of like-minded people to setup a community in the middle of a desert next to a river isn't a bad idea.

I’m a English speaking White South African. I would not be allowed in Oranie.Culturally, English speaking South Africans & Afrikaans speaking South Africans are different. The town is about preserving the Afrikaans culture, so I’m fine with that! It’s about culture, not race..

Tell the full story. Blacks and whites who are not Afrikaners are not allowed. It is not unique in South Africa, in certain rural areas only members of a particular group are allowed to live on tribal land.

Not sure you have all the facts and I recon you may have skewed the viewers perception of what Orania is trying to do. Its basically a refuge for a cultural group in South Africa that is trying to preserve the Afrikaans ( white descendants from Europe) culture in Africa. Their culture and values gets marginalised by the black majority, with the fear of becoming extinct. Now if the Afrikaners were animals then everyone would agree that protective measures and preservation should take place in order to prevent extinction. I don't think they are racist but rather focusing on themselves, and I feel that everyone has the right to protect their culture and it doesn't matter who you are or where you are from.
