Elon Musk’s boring machine revealed

A SpaceX employee shared a photo of a giant tunnel-boring machine recently on his Instagram account, which seems to indicate that Elon Musk’s tunnel-digging project is underway.

A tunnel-boring machine can be used to excavate tunnels using a giant circular cutter head. The machine can bore through anything from hard rock to sand.

Musk first revealed his idea of tunneling underneath the city of Los Angeles after he described being stuck in the city’s traffic in December last year. He said he wants to build up to 30 levels of underground tunnels for cars and high-speed trains, such as the Hyperloop.

Musk told Bloomberg that his Boring Company would create a trillion jobs in the future.
