That's awesome.
I didn't even know he was doing that, I thought the extra strikes were coming from his fingerstyle insanity.

Hahah that tongue action at the end !
This is exactly how I learned selective picking. The next steps to use more advanced selective picking would be to use multiple strings AND also throwing in more notes that aren't groups of 3 same notes. Do some pull offs that lead in to the selectivepicking pattern. Skip strings, or group the 2's and 3's over multiple strings instead of 3 notes on the same string. Chord and double-stop patterns are cool to use. Using regular triplets inbetween the selective picked flurries to get the low (or high) open string chugs as well. This technique is incredible and feels really good to do

I think he does it in the opposite way, it's way more hammering than picking, he showed this in an interview. He said "I pick, like, every four notes)

I don't know what it is about "hammer-ons from nowhere" but I love it

To complete this technique you'd also have to incorporate alternating between palm muted open strings and the tapped equivalent, to give it a wacky rythm and feel. Great stuff!

that's actually the opposite, selective picking starts with playing open string and then left hand taps, except you palm mute it all do the left hand taps sound like you're just picking them

The fact that I can do this, but I pick all 3 notes anyway...

If it's from your left hand, that's somewhere.
