El Randa / Sledd Riding – The Osborne Brothers

An instrumental medley of two tunes: "El Randa" followed by "Sledd Riding." Both of these are banjonic masterpieces, though Bobby Osborne's mandolin breaks show how well he handled his part. The great video captured by Kentucky Educational Television (KET) at the 1979 McLain Family Band Family Festival really shows off what both Sonny and Bobby were doing.

When I first uploaded this medley, I relied on a well-informed friend who identified the first tune as "El Rondo." BUT the correct title, per Sonny Osborne, is "El Randa." Sonny further clarified (Bluegrass Today, October 16, 2020):
"The correct spelling is El Randa. I was told it meant “The Pickpocket.” However, since then
I have been led to believe it to mean…”The Happy Go Lucky Thief.” Pretty much the same
thing, huh? I reckon I can accept that. I did record it but I can’t tell you the album title....
I wrote El Randa. Obviously I believe it’s a great tune."

I fully agree, a GREAT tune, masterfully played! Sorry for the mistake with the title...

Sonny and Bobby recorded El Randa in 1974, and it was released by MCA in 1975.
