More importantly (and related to the topic of this video) is that whatever is written between square brackets is removed from the surrounding text/document, as if it is not present on the page. This is useful to understand this when you are reading/writing contracts or other documents, because a lot of times corporations and governmental entities deliberately misuse grammar to create the illusion of saying something when little or nothing is being said at all.

You can also put square brackets around your signature, which is effectively not signing the document since the same rule applies as mentioned above. If someone claims you did sign despite the square brackets, you can usually invalidate the entire document on the basis of a lack of grammatical standard (i.e. there cannot be disclosure if the document is not written in a way that it can be understood to mean what it appears to say).
