At my age I can read a book and after reading the last page I could start over because I already forgot it all.

If you read anything written before the dawn of television, you will be blown away by the intricacy of each sentence. "Ben Hur, " "Jane Eyre, " and even "Brewster's Millions" come to mind. I have read books about ancient history written in the mid-nineteeth century and found whole paragraphs that were one sentence. TV has made us all streamlined and stupid, imho.

I've been saying to people that I need to stop reading new books and read the same books again because so little of it sticks after one or two readings.

Right now I only own 8 theology books and I am pretty content with them I probably won’t buy many others until I’m older. The main ones I’m reading or plan to read in the near future is systematic theology by Luis berkohf witch I am currently working through, all the divine names and titles of the Bible, and all the doctrines of the Bible by Herbert lockyear.

Matthew, if you haven’t already you should read a little on the Eastern Orthodox Theology on Theosis. “We are partakers of His Divine nature”. It really digs in on transformation this one quote summarizes this teaching St. Athanasius said just before the Ecumenical Council of Nicaea in 325. He said, “The Son of God became man so that man might become God [by grace]”

Do you have suggestions for a list of the best works to focus on, particularly in theology/Bible?

As time goes on, you should be collecting a few books that you revisit frequently. We understand that the Word works on us differently as we age, this is also true for other written works as well. Treat a few books like close friends and converse with them frequently. A few I revisit every year: Beowulf, Calvin's Little Book, Julius Caesar, Stoner by John Williams.
