I have my great-grandmother’s passport that looks just like that and it sure is different holding an object with that symbol all over it versus seeing it on a screen. It creeped me out when I found it in the box of family paperwork. Fortunately she got out and led a decent life here in the States.

As a German it’s really weird looking through old family documents because that was the official stamp on everything… also many men married in their uniforms, which also had the symbol all over. So if you want to look at maybe the only picture you have of that generation you can’t escape the history it was connected to. Very grounding, very humbling and makes me remember all those that lost their lives due to German hands back then.

When Matt is walking along the pillared way, and the voiceover joins the jumpy music "Matt has come to Berlin; he wants to know more about his grandmother Margot's life..." -- it felt SO Philomena Cunk that I almost expected David Walliams to jump out from behind one of the pillars. I kept reassuring myself, "He wouldn't do. They wouldn't do." I was much relieve that they didn't.
