RACEY Boy Oh Boy
Показать описание
1979 was a huge year in pop music with disco reaching its fever pitch saturation, power pop getting a surge with proponents such as The Knack and Cars; superstar pairings - Neil & Barbra, Donna and Barbra, Smokie's Chris Norman with the Glycerine Queen Suzi Quatro; Kenny Loggins with Stevie Nicks. Then there were the quirky hitmakers and one hit wonders such as M, Buggles, U.K Squeeze, Patrick Hernandez, David Naughton, Anita Ward and Plastic Bertrand. In this diverse mix of musical acts at the end of a remarkable decade, came the retro sounding Racey; strangely anachronistic but hugely popular in Britain and Australia, where 3 hits in a row made the charts; 'Lay your love on me' and 'Some girls' being National No. 1's and the third 'Boy oh boy' missing the Top 10 but reaching #12. Originally mentored and produced by the hitmaking brainchilds that were Nicky Chinn and Mike Chapman, Racey picked up on the Happy Days. American Graffiti resurgence of 50's pop in the 1970's by presenting the clever hooks and harmonies wrapped in a squeaky clean dress-alike smoothness that even at the time had a bit of a cornball feel to it, but that didn't stop the group selling a lot of records in Europe and Australia.
