I took this trip for curiosity two years ago. I lived in BKK at the time. Flew to Kuala Lumpur and decided to experience the train ride from KL to BKK. It was comfortable enough but I was disappointed with the scenery overall. Was cool when they prepared the bed but it was annoying to not be able to charge my devices. Been there and done that. I may check out the overnight train from Bangkok to Chiang Mai once the quarantine ends. Good luck on your journey

That's one epic journey! I've been through Hua Lamphong a few times, it's a pretty good station. The train looks much nicer than what I've been on before - but then again I've never been in 1st class haha. Nice sunrise, definitely worth having a window view! Always worth trying those little unknown treats. Hope you enjoyed Penang!

Long trip!!! I didn't even realise you could train it all the way from Bangkok to Penang.  It's a little bit nasty they don't change those sheets.

Maybe you want to try to enter Malaysia's peninsula from the east side next time. Take a train to Sungai Kolok, then crossing the river by boat to Pengkalan Kubor, Kelantan, Malaysia. From there, you can take an express bus to Kuala Lumpur. If you're a train guy, take omnibus/taxi from the border station to Pasir Mas town, take a sleeper train to Gemas or even Johor Bahru. Gemas is basically like Hatyai station's counterpart of Malaysia. The departure time is around 7.30pm. Or maybe, a detour vacation. take a bus from Pengkalan Kubor to Kota Bharu, then take a bus to Kuala Besut Jetty to go to Perhentian Island. 🤣😸

Awesome I did not know the train was an option :) I'm curious to see what our after lockdown options are since we are currently in Phuket :)

The one thing which strikes me in Bangkok is the electrical wires dangling in a mess, electricians in Thailand seems a crazy lot.
