UGH I finished Empire of Gold the other night and I DIED it was so good.

I didn't like Dara, but the thing is, the characters go through so much change and growth--and are so well-written--that you have moments of loving, hating, being exasperated with, and sympathizing with every single one of them. So ultimately, it didn't matter that I didn't end up loving one of the main characters, because I adored the others, and I could at least understand Dara *some* of the time. I read the entire trilogy in 2021 and yes, definitely lifetime favorites!!

We have no overlaps since I haven't read any of these lol. But I do have a couple on my list, most excited about The Helm of Midnight. I need to get to it already. As for other fantasy horrors, the only two I read and liked are Sorrowland by Rivers Solomon and Ring Shout by P. Djeli Clark. Also, Mexican Gothic is a good gothic horror but I find it to be more magical realism than fantasy.

haha yeah sometimes the conflict made me just want to shake EVERYONE! lol. But mostly Dara was the main hindrance to more enjoyment/even higher rating for me. Such a douchecanoe, that guy.
