June 2022: Sarasota Police Active Shooter Training Scenarios at Southside Elementary

🚨🚔TRAINING🚨🚔 On Friday, June 24, 2022, the Sarasota Police Department held active shooter training scenarios at Southside Elementary School. Officers who responded were not told about the training and did not know they would be handling an active shooter training incident.

Supervisors were looking to expose potential weaknesses and deficiencies that can be addressed later in additional training. Additionally, supervisors responded and discussed the management of an active shooter incident because of the complexity of the call and the number of issues that don't come up in every other critical incident.

In addition to Sarasota Police officers, members from Sarasota County Schools, Sarasota Memorial Health Care System, and Sarasota County Sheriff's Office responded.
