What is Inuit Mythology? | Obscure Mythologies

There is no other climate quite as inhospitable as the Arctic. Yet the Inuit people of Northern Canada, Alaska, Greenland and parts of Siberia have made it their home. No other people on earth have been so profoundly shaped by their climate as the Inuit, and their mythology reflects this.

In this video, we'll explore the mythology and folklore of the Arctic. From the idea of the 'Inua' that lives in every human and animal, to the myth of Sedna - the Mother of the Sea. Oh, and who could forget about the hard-to-pronounce-well mythical beasts like the qallupilluit, naujakuksualuk and the adlet.

I remember hearing one Inuit myth about the northern lights. (This story could vary from person to person, also it has been a while since I’ve heard this story so I might get a few details wrong) It pretty much says that the northern lights are the playful spirits of dead children. One must be careful and not stay out for too long under the northern lights because they will pick up your head and play with it like a ball.
