Awesome as always! Can I ask you mentioned chrysophytes during the video. How did you defeat these diatoms? I have the classic "golden algae" that has appeared as a thick, slime on rock... high Po4? High silicates?

I wonder if the low iron = excess of nutrients is in fact a common correlation due to most reefers running chaeto. Low iron would result in cheato not growing and not up taking nutrients. Those with chaeto are also far more likely to see Dinos… again possibly yielding a higher correlation with those that use chaeto. Just a hunch that this could be where the correlation is coming from.

I suspect that the “accumulation of nutrients” is related more to balancing out the algae growth requirements which in turn causes elevated nutrient levels. Kind of a limiting reactant/limiting reagent concept from chemistry.

The ph got too high in the 40 breeder to cause the precipitation, if you had sand in there it would have been rock hard.

I wonder if you could load up the avast marine plank feeder with Kalkwasser powder and figure out the daily on timing to keep alkalinity steady. That corkscrew auger could dose tiny amounts and the tube would allow for in sump mixing. Kalkwasser is the ideal way of dosing a reef tank if we can figure out how to perfectly dose the powder straight to the tank safely.
