Libel and slander are forms of defamation, which is considered a civil wrong, not a criminal offense. You cannot charge a person with a criminal offense if they are presumed to have committed a civil wrong. Under Lagos law, Dele Farotimi has not committed any criminal offense, and the Ekiti police's arrest was beyond the scope of their jurisdiction.
