Is it Finally Time to Reinstall The Outer Worlds? – Peril on Gorgon DLC Review

Peril on Gorgon early access and a review code was provided by Private Division.
Today we take a look at the first DLC for The Outer Worlds - Peril on Gorgon. In this video I give my review and overview of the new DLC and try to help you decide if it is worth reinstalling The Outer Worlds after the 11 month wait.

The problem for me is how unengaging I found the base game to be. Unlike New Vegas, which has a permanent spot on my hard drive, Outer Worlds's story just didn't seem memorable. It's success was based on how badly most of us wanted a new Fallout game.

Not saying it is a bad game but it cracks me up how a bunch of people said this game would be the death of Bethesda or the death of Fallout. Yeah right lol

I’m loving the DLC so far, it’s more of what I loved in the base game. I’m not sure why it needed to be said that the game doesn’t CHANGE anything as if that’s a bad or unexpected thing? Why would it need to change anything? It’s just more content.

My favorite part of new vegas was going anywhere and feeling like my presence was affecting the local eco-system. Helping the ncr seemed to make them more powerful, which then helped me. It wasn't just the appearance of being helpful and some quest rewards, it was taking towns and wiping out enemy encampments permanently. Helping freeside and seeing them gain their independence was awesome. I forgave a lot of that games shortcomings due to the short development time and the limitations of the hardware but now im not so sure. I just wanna role play gosh darnit

i just started this game and after an hr or two just can't get into it, thought it'd feel more like fallout but the colors in the world are just idk weird.

The problem for me with this game wasn't the story or the art or the atmosphere or any of that - the gameplay itself just felt incredibly flimsy, and that's very problematic for a first-person shooter.

I played this through gamepass, and I really enjoyed it.
It obviously wasn’t a AAA game but had a smaller budget/was a smaller project then say fallout new Vegas.
And obsidian was always very clear that it wasn’t AAA game, and very honest in what people could expect.
Which you know I come to appreciate more and more after the way a lot of game studios have managed their releases.

It’s a good game though, but a smaller project made by a smaller team.

I really enjoyed the writing, the world was interesting, it has a lot of promise. My main complaint was just that it was a smaller game. So even though most of the main quest and side quests are well done in my opinion, there were only so many of them.
Plenty, enough to tell a good story and create a interesting world. But not much more then that.
Not enough to have a 100+ playthrough or to get a good sense of the world.

And it was a world and world building that caught my attention and that I wanted to devolve deeper into.
I guess it’s a good thing when you don’t really want to change anything just want more of it.

Some of the RPG mechanics seemed interesting, but had limited use in the game.

I’m gonna get the dlc.

I heard there was gonna be a sequel and I think it has the potential to be a amazing game.
The first game, was a really good game that showed a lot of promise.

I played it on game pass and love it. I'm playing it now on switch and I'm liking it, but disappointed at how bad the port is. I will be getting the dlc.

Issue for me is the level cap increase is 3 levels or 30 points but skill cap jumped to 150 with many skill checks pushed up. This means even less skills you can cap you can't cap lockpick, hack and a chat let alone a combat skill. So in effect skills have been nefed.

In my opinion the hype this game received from crazed salty fallout fans is what lead to its middling to disappointing reception. Not to say the game is bad but you don’t see anyone talking about it much these days. It’s funny that devs literally said “this isn’t supposed to replace fallout its a completely different smaller thing” and everyone was like “so what your saying is that this is fallout 5 and you hate Bethesda for 76?”

I played the base game several times, was happy with the DLC. Gorgon is a pretty big place.

I would love to download and play the DLC. Unfortunately, The Epic Launcher keeps crashing when I try to start it. So, I might have to wait for Steam to start selling it.

There are actually people recently playing the game through PC game pass so a number of assumptions are a bit off.. But mod support would be the way to play some more and I haven't finished the story even.
