The Nebula class has always been my favorite starfleet ship. It has all my favorite design aspects of the Galaxy class and the Miranda class

I always loved how the practicality of kit bashing to make this ship in real life lead to it's extreme practicality and modularity in universe. Art imitating life or something.

The Nebula class suffered from the same issue the Galaxy class did as well. Namely naming your ship after a interstellar term.
Whenever a Nebula class enters a nebula it must turn into a "who's on first sketch".
*Captain:* Where exactly in the nebula are we?
*Navigation:* The bridge sir.

The Phoenix incident is one of the reasons why I hate it when people dismiss Star Trek ships, specifically Starfleet, when discussing firepower. People who view Starfleet ships as only being "Explorers" and therefor not worthy of military discussion clearly underestimate their capability. Starfleet technically classifies their ships as ships of exploration, but Starfleet serves as the primary defense of the Federation and they're surrounded by hostile Empires who do in fact purpose build warships and conquer civilizations around them. The fact that these military grade battlecruisers and warbirds all think twice about engaging a Federation ship in battle should clue you in to how powerful they really are.

The Phoenix was equipped with the AWAC sensor and was pursued by a Galor-class destroyer who was armed with the Phoenix's prefix codes. They disabled her shields and successfully hit her with her shields down and this Nebula-class was still able to outperform the destroyer, successfully destroying it and then their primary target. That's pretty impressive if you ask me. A ship of exploration with a sensor pod, (didn't even have the extra firepower afforded by the triangular torpedo pod), was able to destroyer her attacker, even when the attacker had the tactical advantage. Don't underestimate the Federation or Star Trek in general.

I love these worker class ships, clearly designed in the vein of the biggest shiniest flagship of the time but trimmed back into a more compact and efficient design. The tight Miranda to the graceful Constitution.

It's one of my favorite designs, if not my absolute favorite.
More firepower with the weapons pod and less wasted space compared to the Galaxy class. Shield integrity can be higher because the bubble covers a smaller volume. No frills, No BS. Just a solid workhorse ship that's adaptable for research and exploration.

The Reliant of TNG. My favorite ship of that show.

I believe the Nebula is by far one of the most underrated ships in the Federation. Its more versatile than standard Galaxy class ships and compact which is a preference of mine. I believe a full tactical warship style variant based on tech designed for Akira and Defiant class ships is warranted and needed.

There is a countenance or majesty( pre-Borg and pre-Dominion ) Federation ships had that the newer more low-profile combat superior ships don't. End of an era. I really like the Nebula-class and makes me feel very nostalgic for the Galaxy-class ships. A great video. Thank you for posting. 😊

My favorite ship class in Star Trek. I remember I had the VCR set to record and when I watched "The Wounded" (one of my favorite episodes) and I saw the Nebula for the first time, my jaw dropped and I stopped the VCR to reverse it and pause at it's image as the Enterprise came alongside. It has a "business only" look to it.

Let's do a poll. Like if you would like to be in charge of a Nebula class or comment to be in charge of a Galaxy class

Cardassian Legate: Hey we lets be friends. Is there anything you want?

Gul: Give me a squadron of Nebula's

Legate: You sure, what about Galaxy's?

Gul: Nah Nebula's please. I don't want a cruise ship.

Don't forget the Nebula class was also involved in the battle against the Borg Cube during the battle of Wolf 359 as well.

The Nebula class is over of my favorite starship designs. Thanks, SD!

I enjoy the Nebula. It's a nice compact design that clearly follows the design lineage of the time. I wish we would have seen more of these in Next Generation instead of all the Excelsiors.

I didn't know that wedge-shaped superstructure was an interchangeable mission-specific module! That's actually a very cool feature. I don't remember seeing something like that on any other Star Trek ship, but is actually a great idea.

I love the nebula class! I prefer it over the galaxy class! 😎

And yet the Nebula class is portrayed as a weaker, poor man's, version of the Galaxy class. Seriously underrated.
