Repowered Alco switcher at Broughton Ohio plus NS 6342 SD40E on L70

Not much sound to go with one, the scene was shot too far off the road.. A nicely rebuilt switcher assists unloading a couple potash cars in Broughton Ohio. On another day the Norfolk Southern local L70 pulls some empty cars from the elevator with SD40E NS 6342.

Great shots! Too often we see around railroads businesses big and small that are trashed out with litter, derelict vehicles and/or pieces of equipment no longer in use. The potash plant appeared from the sky view to be orderly and well cared for. Kudo's to the railroads for keeping the SD's going some half century after they first appeared. Those SD's can do the grunt work. On another note, I'm sure most folks have heard Canadian Pacific has bought KCS for $25 billion dollars.

The last Alco I saw was back in the mid 60s to early 70s.
Chicago and Nortwestern was still going then.

Ha we hadda EMD-powered RS3 yrs. ago. Love Alcos but the reliability must not have equaled their competitor, which got decades later got dethroned by much more fuel efficient GE.
