I love the use of "3 business days" - implying that if there's a weekend or public holiday in there, this process takes even longer

Dehydration could also possibly play a role.

Both TMI and very useful information. This channel always fascinates me.

I always figured it was down to jetlag. "Time to poop, body. It's 8am, and I've had coffee."

"It's not 8am. It's 11am and you should have pooped a while ago but were asleep. You missed the launch window, sorry."

I love this intro in ways I cannot adequately express. Acknowledging the absurdity of how we encounter wild questions which you might be embarrassed to ask your friends or a professional in person, but are okay with having it posed to the entire world, without being mean or shaming. Kudos to you sir.

As a nurse, THANK YOU for spreading this info! Everything you said was spot on and you’d be surprised how many people I’ve had text me asking the same thing

Traveler’s constipation >>> Traveler’s diarrhea

I used to regularly go to 4-6 day festivals and just not poop until I got back. 15 years of going and I think I pooped once. Anything to avoid a campground toilet after several days of raving.

I tend to eat differently when I travel (more fast food, less fiber, maybe even less water) and I feel that this has a big impact on my regular-ness. :)

Lauren. Take it from a long haul pilot (who suffers from the same plight if not mitigated):
Drink a lot of water.
Take psyllium before going to bed (daily).
You’re welcome.

Why business days? Does your poop have weekends off?

I used to get constipated when traveling, but after I started making enough money to get my own hotel room instead of sharing, I have no issues anymore. I make more of an effort to drink lots of water when I know I can just head back to my room and use the facilities without someone maybe being able to hear me through the thin door. I used to also worry about stinking up the bathroom and then a friend having to endure it.

If it's a full travel day, I try to do my business in the airport before getting on the plane. Pooping in a public restroom is no fun, but at some point I started caring more about my own comfort rather than if strangers have to *gasp* hear pooping sounds while in the bathroom. That's what it's for!

One of my favorite pieces of medical jargon is “stool burden.” 😂😂

The later reason actually offers solutions for other situations as well. When I’m out in the back country (backpacking, bushcrafting, etc) I often find that I don’t need to poop for at least the first day or two. Honestly, I find it useful in those cases, because no matter how handy you are with a trowel, it’s still never a pleasant experience.

I have IBS and literally anything can change my poop schedule.

On the tri think another factor on the travellers constipation is likely stress.

Travelling is quite often a stressful experience and stress can certainly mess up your bodily functions.

I love that you said moving around helps things move around in your body. That is a splendid way of saying that. Nurse/nursing instructor approved! 😊
