navionics app on a boat ipad or tablet 100% best thing I did love using it makes life at sea so much easier and fun.
And the case I got has now almost doubled in price but for just over £20 it's still a amazing price for the case to mount the tablet I've added a link to what looks to be the same as mine please check it will fit your tablet and don't just click buy.

Your blog is the best I have seen. You have explained everything I need to know. I am a single handed sailor and paper charts are not practical. I have a Tablet with GPS so off I go. Good lock and safe passages.

Thanks so much for showing this, was wondering if I could do it, but I didn’t think it would show tracks and actually show your location so glad to know it should work.

Hey mate. I have done exactly the same as you. Got a Samsung tablet and Navionics. It's a no brainer as you say. I also got a tablet at first which did not have GPS and swapped it for the current one. I have a Hunter Landau so can use a tablet mount suckered to my window in front of the helm. Great for Poole Harbour. Also have navionics on my phone as backup. My tablet is removable as I use it in my Freelander 2 with Maps Me installed (free) much better satnav than my car and bigger screen.
I will make a sunshade for the tablet to minimise glare. Right on. Dave

I was about to spend £1500 on a chart plotter before lockdown. I'm so glad I didn't. We have Navionics on our 2 mobiles and son's tablet. It's absolutely brilliant. If you're teccy enough you can cast to a laptop and have it on a really big screen. Plus, we all effectively get to use our own chart plotter simultaneously while at sea. Strangely, the paper charts, compass etc also became far more interesting to my son when he could relate them to his 10" tablet screen!

As I get closer to going out on the water for the first time I'm getting a bit worried everyone keeps saying all the bad things that can happen but never good things I'm really hoping the navionics app will help me out thanks for all your vids very informative

Nice information, thanks. I'm working on commercial boats out in Taiwan, and Navionics works great

Nice one Salty, that's just what I was looking for. On my voyage to this point, I came across a guy with an unbelievable set up on his boat, it must have cost ££££'s, and could probably sail itself, and even park. I had no idea there was that amount of gadgetry. If your slightly interested it was this; Navigation Gear and Electronics for a Cruising Sailboat. Thanks again for your realism. Cheers

you can leave it connected to the usb plug all the time, it will not over-charge, its got battery management, you are thinking about rechargable batteries of the nienties which tended to have that problem.

It really is the way forward compared to dedicated stupidly priced marine plotters. I use a samsung tab A6 in waterproof case with suction mount on mine. Doubles up for entertainment also. Plus the latest update allows the use of wifi ais signals if you install a transponder.
