Issue Tracker Vs Todo/Fixme: What Should You Use

Today I felt like talking about software development and today's topic of choice is issue trackers vs using todos and fixme comments in the source code. The reason this topic came about was from a post I saw on Reddit about the number of todo and fixme statements used in the Linux kernel, it wasn't many relative to the number of lines in the kernel but it got me thinking, when should you use one method over the other.

I've been trying out a bit of different content lately to see what sticks, let me know what you think about it down below, don't worry the normal sort of content will be back as of tomorrow.

For personal scripts, I'm kind of into using ### to mark to-dos. Takes less time to type and is easier to search in vim. It's also great because it doesn't highlight it by default, something that really annoys me. But yeah, for anything that requires cooperation an issue tracker is essential in my opinion.

You should check out imdone.io. I'm the creator, so I'm biased, but I use it every day for work and side projects.
