Turning Long Table Legs! (Hallway Table Part 1)

Woodturning long table legs!

In this video I will be making four wood turned table legs. It’s a sort of segmented table leg, made from curly maple and padauk. the lathe I used to turned the legs is a Record Power Coronet Herald, and I used a homemade wood turning steady rest to help stop vibration when turning the long legs. (If you want to see how the steady rest is made, I have linked it down below).

This is part 1 of a 5 part table making series! It is a hallway/console table, made from curly maple and padauk. It was my final project of the year at Rycotewood Furniture Centre. It has turned legs with mitre padauk socks, coopered curved rails and a glass top. I love how the table came out and I hope you like it as well.

Sprinkle some salt on the glue, it’s stops slippage.
Also handy for the fish n chips :)

I’ll fully admit I’ve not been a very faithful viewer of your videos. However, to see the progress you’ve made over the course of time I’ve followed you is awesome. The information you give and the quality of work is wonderful. I cannot wait to see the full final piece (I even plan to speak to an acquaintance of mine to see if they’d be able to build a table like this). Keep up the great work!

Oh man this is a beautiful design, Sean looking forward to seeing the other parts in this series. Awesome tips I really appreciate the lathe tip on mounting the spindle. I don’t want to sound like a skipping record but man you are a incredible craftsman from design to finished piece. Take Care.

video! Your skills and explanations are excellent. I can't wait to see more. One small be careful with those pull strings on your they get caught in the machine, you're going to be turning wood with your nose! Keep building! DD

I saw the final result and it looked amazing. How did you go about designing this beforehand and getting the right measurements? It seems like many things can go wrong.
