I've been up and down, I've been all around
I was mystified, almost terrified
But late at night I still hear you call my name

I've been on my own, I've been all alone
I was hypnotized, I felt paralyzed
But late at night I still want you just the same

I've been a gambler, but I'm nobody's fool
And I sure know something, sure know something
You showed me things they never taught me in school
And I sure know something, sure know something
No one can make me feel the way that you do
And I sure know something, aha

I was seventeen, you were just a dream
I was mesmerized, I felt scared inside
You broke my heart and I still can feel the pain

I've been counted out, I've had fear and doubt
I've been starry eyed, never satisfied
Cause late at night I still need you just the same
Just the same

I've been a gambler, but I'm nobody's fool
And I sure know something, sure know something
You showed me things they never taught me in school
And I sure know something, sure know something
No one can make me feel the way that you do
And I sure know something, aha

I've been counted out, I've had fear and doubt
I've been starry eyed, never satisfied
Cause late at night I still need you just the same
Just the same, yeah

I've been a gambler, but I'm nobody's fool
And I sure know something, sure know something
You showed me things they never taught me in school
And I sure know something, sure know something
No one can make me feel the way that you do
And I sure know something, sure know something
No one can tell me till I hear it from you
And I sure know something, sure know something
I've been a gambler, but I'm nobody's fool
Sure know something, sure know something
You showed me things they never taught me in school
Sure know something, sure know something
No one can make me feel the way that you do

A very underrated Kiss song. Almost 40 years later and it still stands up.

It always surprised me that this song wasn’t a bigger hit. Cool tempo changes, catchy chorus, etc.

Am I the only one that absolutely loved their costumes on this album???

God I love this song. Fuck the haters, for guys like me (55 years old) the original Kiss helped shape my life, I loved their music, and I will always be indebted to them for their great music and the joy it gave me.

One of my favorite KISS songs....what a great opening Bass line by Gene... excellent vocals by Paul... fantastic guitar by Ace and of course...Anton Fig who looks like"Cat Man" on drums...KISS Forever !!👍🎸😎

One of their best songs. I've been a fan since 1974, it's 2024 and they still ROCK❤🎶

Every time somebody says Gene wasn't a good bassist... This line kicks ass.

I loved this era with KISS! The song, the costumes, the stage - everything! Miss those days. So many great memories! 💋

this is an amazing song... I've always liked Definitely had a couple of their songs on my playlist over the But about a month ago my non verbal autistic daughter started randomly having a bunch of Kiss songs on her Internet browser searches.... I thought it might be a one off thing and didn't think much of it... until she started singing a song with me on a drive to the store recently. I was so surprised she knew the words!! I asked her more questions and was stunned how much she was aware of the band i.e. Song lyrics, Member names, and even the personas...(starchild, space ace, etc). It has been fun and touching, seeing her excitement and joy singing their songs. It has also rekindled my overall interest in the band and this song in particular was one of the gems I didn't really remember. I have been playing the songs she seems to know and this one is now a personal fave! Is very cool to find out you have something that you mutually enjoy with a special needs child that she discovered undependently. It has connected us even more. She also has indicated that she wants to be Paul Stanley aka "starchild" for Halloween. How cool is that? She never fails to amaze and surprise but this was the most 'wow" moment

Behind the disco, beyond the lights hidden in the lyrics is one hell of a great song. Long live Kiss. And I love the bass line. From 1979 a very good year.

One of my favourite songs of Paul’s. If you can put aside Kiss and their earlier, heavier stuff, this song is still brilliant, no matter who recorded it. Chords and guitar licks are great and one of the best of Gene’s bass lines. Verse and chorus are equally great. Nothing at all wrong with this song.

People always said kiss was just a gimmick they were nothing without their make up. But as I listened to my kiss albums. ... I don't see the make up I only hear the music. Kiss Army For Life.

2:27-2:37 with their faces floating forward out of the black background is so iconic! It represents unmistakably the characters of KISS that we all knew and loved about this band..and does so with a black background so that the make up of each character is the central focus...it is so brilliantly done

I used to think KISS songs weren't so good and that their notoriety came from their eccentric looks and performances. But I've been binge watching music videos and now I've realized that I was very wrong. They actually have a lot of genuinely great songs.
