Canada's economy will experience a 'slowdown', IMF chief economist warns

Rosemary Barton Live speaks with IMF Chief Economist Pierre-Olivier Gourinchas about Canada's economy and the global economic forecast. Gourinchas says inflation rates may come down but will still be high, and that global growth will slow down. 'Elevated inflation, low growth is not a combination that feels good,' he says.

I feel once again, the concern about QE seems to be rather overstated. The long term inflationary effects of interest rate hikes should be a topic of reasearch at the BoC. Whether or not the deflationary power of the hikes are going to offset the inflation caused is an important issue, otherwise we may be causing massive policy errors that can seriously affect ours and future generations.

I mean its hard not to see how interest hikes are going to have massive deflationary power if the "inflation" issues were mostly supply chain issues.

I agree. The foundations aren't there to support the recent price explosion. Median income is much much lower than can be sustained. Politicians never really comment on it but that doesn't mean recession isn't coming next year.
