Simply known as “The Mansion,” the Romanek residence was previously owned by Rick Rubin and parts of it were used as a recording studio and bohemian artist refuge for many rock ‘n’ roll legends; Red Hot Chili Peppers, Guns N’ Roses, Jay-Z, Lorde, Radiohead, LCD Soundsystem, System of a Down and many others have all recorded what some would argue is their best work there.

Growing up, I heard that the house was originally built
by studio set builders for Wallace Simpson & her man, as a honeymoon getaway … rumor was they didn’t like the canyon, & wound up staying at San Diego s hottest beach hotel….It sat empty until Mr.Flynn ? I know that a fire raged threw the canyon late 20’s? burning most of Tom Mix’s house, which later was rebuilt & Bob Dylan lived in, and across the street, Harry Houdini’s estate
Then it was a abandoned again until Doris Day’s son
Terry Melcher bought it and brought it back to life …
